Travel Nursing - it's not your average career.

Looking at the whole picture of what traveling has to offer, you have to wonder who wouldn't want to give it a try - at least once. The benefits seem to be overwhelming, while the negatives are hard to find. The initial premise of having a career that allows you to see new places on a regular basis is enough to peak most people's interest in becoming a traveler. But if that's not enough, I am going to tell you all about the world of benefits that exist inside the traveling industry. Once you read this you may find yourself seriously considering a career change.

If the only way you can possibly think of living rent-free involves moving back in with your parents - don't despair. There is hope. Almost every good travel health care company offers free housing to their travelers. Of course the standard of housing varies according to the company. The best travel companies usually offer the best housing. In fact some companies devote a whole department just to finding you the perfect place to live. This ensures that you have more than just an apartment, you have a home. Housing advisors make sure that they find the type of housing that they themselves would live in. They search for clean, comfortable apartments that are conveniently located near the facilities where you will be working. On top of all this, your apartment usually comes already furnished. Plus the utilities, like gas and electric, are already turned on and in most cases they're even paid for as part of the package. You can rest assured that when you arrive at your assignment you'll also be arriving to an apartment that is ready to be lived in. All you have to do is bring your personal belongings and turn on your telephone and cable. That's it. Everything else is ready and waiting for you. It doesn't get much easier than that.

You're probably wondering what happens if you take an assignment near the house you live in, or if you choose to stay with friends, or if you travel with a motor home. Well here's how this benefit gets even better, most travel companies still offer you a housing subsidy. Your subsidy will vary the same way the value of real estate varies from city to city. So the actual amount will be based on the location of your assignment, but any way you look at it you still get a generous housing allowance.

One of the common misunderstandings that people have about traveling is that they assume that because they are not in a permanent position they will not receive any type of insurance. That's totally not the case. The best travel companies offer you free comprehensive health, life and dental insurance with prescription drug coverage on every assignment. They should also offer you professional liability insurance. This very important benefit should also be provided to you at no cost. Working with an established travel company will assure you that your dependents can also be covered at an additional cost and you can also receive supplemental insurance that provides income if you're unable to work as a result of a non-work-related illness. The point is, you will never have to sacrifice any health benefits while on assignment.

What's even better about this benefit is that with certain companies you can choose to receive a cash payment each month instead of insurance coverage. This means you can secure your own insurance and receive a flat monthly fee in an amount that will be determined by the company.

It's always nice to receive a little extra "green" here and there, and the travel industry is a great place to find it. In addition to the top salaries you'll be earning, almost every travel company offers some type of completion bonus on a majority of their assignments. Some offer bonuses as high as $5,000. Completion bonuses are only one of the many different types of financial rewards you can find in the travel health care industry. You may also come across referral bonuses. Many of the well-respected travel companies build their business with your help. They rely on your word of mouth to bring in new talented health care professionals. As a way of saying "thank you," they usually show their appreciation in the monetary form. The amount of the bonus depends on the company - some are for $500 or more for each health care professional that begins an assignment. Everywhere you turn there is bonus money to be made. Stay with one travel company long enough and you'll probably see some type of loyalty bonus too. These bonuses can be several thousand dollars. If that isn't a reason to stick with a company, I don't know what is. And last but not least, although not technically labeled a "bonus" it can definitely be considered one - some companies will guarantee your pay even if a facility sends you home due to low census. You can't ask for more than that.

The Longer You Stay With Traveling the Better It Gets!
The travel health care industry isn't all about money, money, money. There are other benefits too. Many of the travel companies out there reward you based on how long you travel with them. The premise is simple - the longer you work with the company the better the rewards will be. Some travel companies offer entry into a 401k program with matching contributions to help their travelers prepare for retirement. In the long run the benefits tend to vary with every company, but here are some of the rewards you might expect: housing upgrades, insurance upgrades, discounts from national businesses, financial aid for continuing education, licensure reimbursement and so much more.

No other career choice can offer you benefits like the ones you'll receive as a traveler. Think about it, you can live rent-free, earn a great salary, receive all the health benefits of a permanent position, and earn bonuses on practically every assignment. Plus, you'll receive all this while visiting the locations you always dreamed of seeing.

Remember, look for a travel company that's established, has a good reputation and offers the types of benefits you're looking for on every assignment. If you keep this in mind, we're sure that you'll find that becoming a traveler will be as close as you'll get to a real working vacation.
