San Francisco. Thousands of San Francisco Bay area hospital
workers walked off the job this morning to begin a two-day strike
in protest of failed contract talks.
The
eight hospitals affected by the strike include five operated by
Sutter Health and three by Catholic Healthcare West.
Some
CHW hospitals will cut their number of patients, said a company
spokesperson. Sutter Health is not planning to limit any patient
services, according to a spokesperson for Sutter.
The
striking union, Service Employees International Union Local 250,
represents 3,500 technicians, licensed vocational nurses and other
health care workers.
The
workers are disgruntled over staffing levels, which they say are
too low.
The
workers will return to work Friday, but neither side knows when
contract talks will resume.
