Few of us have ever visited Kunming, China. But for the next few months, Peggy Jarrett, MPH, RN, is going to be giving us a glimpse into her life living and working as a nurse in southwestern China, near the borders of Vietnam and Laos, with the humanitarian aid group Doctors Without Borders.

For several years, Doctors Without Borders has worked in China and Tibet. The group has trained Tibetan doctors in physical therapy; distributed medical supplies to Chinese village clinics and hospitals; and worked with Chinese communities to prevent epidemics after floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.

For the past two years, Kunming has been home to a Doctors Without Borders field office. And since January, the city has been home to Jarrett. From the Kunming office, Jarrett travels in the region and works with local health schools to develop effective and practical curriculum to train village physicians .
