Five managed care trends to watch
1 . Provider-sponsored organizations (PSOs) will cancel the middleman and allow providers to contract directly with employers and the government.2. Consumers will have more choices of health plans and more options within those plans, often with a higher cost or co-payment.
3. Consumers will continue to demand detailed information on their conditions and diagnoses, and on the quality and outcomes data of the facilities, providers, and services from which they can choose.
4. Clinical pathways will increasingly be seen as a way to increase quality while reducing cost.
5. Nurses and allied health providers will have growing roles managing the care of those with ongoing conditions, in the role of "chronic care coach."
