The Nursefriendly Nationwide Directory provides links to information about the nursing shortage and associated nurse burnout.

The site links to articles on the nursing shortage by governmental departments, nurse burnout around the world, the effects of culture on nursing values and job-related burnout.

Resources on the nursing shortage include links to local news about the shortage and lists of activities undertaken by individual state boards of nursing. These topics can be viewed by state.

Just for men

Male Nurse Magazine, published by Jerry Lucas, RN, explores why males make up only 6 percent of nurses and how men in nursing can help to alleviate the nursing shortage.

The site offers online surveys, employment openings, Internet learning and a forum for male nurses to suggest what they want covered by the publication. The magazine also looks at institutions of higher education and ranks them according to the number of men they have had in their programs, and shares the experiences of men who have attended those programs.

The Male Nurse Magazine Internet radio talk show can be heard at NurseDaily.

Travel nurses

Travel Nurse Times is owned and operated by Wendy Bisaillon, RN. Bisaillon found a lack of information about travel nursing online and decided to remedy this by pulling together information and links to other travel sites into one location. The site is nonprofit and not affiliated with any travel agencies or hospitals. The site compiles nurses' reviews of housing in different areas, provides feedback about the working atmosphere in different health care corporations as well as their opinion about the travel companies they have worked for.

For online interaction with fellow nurses, participate in its 24/7 "Traveler Chat" live chat room.

Nightingale tribute

Country Joe McDonald's Tribute to Florence Nightingale presents Nightingale's lifestory through a timeline. One of the most unique aspects of the site is a phonograph recording of Nightingale's voice that can be played on the computer with Real Player.

Select information and applications to volunteer for the Peace Corps, Christian Abroad and the Catholic Network of Volunteer Service.

One of the more unique programs available is a midwifery internship called "The Russian Birth Project," which offers midwife students the opportunity to live in Russia and practice midwifery in a variety of settings for three-month periods.
