As we approach year's end, the editorial team at NURSEWEEK
once again is beginning to turn its attention to the
new year and to develop a fresh plan that reflects the
many challenges within our profession. The goal is to
provide the nurses of California with a wide array of
editorial content that reflects on our profession in
a positive and constructive way. We want to challenge
you to think for yourselves and have a sense of control
over your future. We also want you to see the possibilities
and solutions that lie in front of us. Most of all,
we are focused on highlighting the positive contributions,
accomplishments and achievements of California's nurses.
As I travel across California for NURSEWEEK, attending
career fairs, nursing events and hospital events, I
meet nurses eager to tell me how much they read and
enjoy NURSEWEEK. This feedback is important to our editorial
team. We need to know what we are doing well and what
we can improve on.
Toward this goal, I have two favors to ask of our readers.
These are two ways you can help us honor nursing in
important and meaningful ways.
First, we want to make sure that we are covering
the stories that you want us to tell. In many ways,
we are trying to tell your stories. So, I am asking
for your help in giving us your ideas and suggestions
for editorial content in 2003. Please e-mail your editorial
ideas to carolb@nurseweek.com.
I am eager to hear from you.
Second, we are embarking on our 2003 Nursing
Excellence Awards nomination process for our awards
ceremony April 25 in Universal City. Please take time
now to think about the nurses you know, and tell us
about their special contributions that deserve our recognition.
Last year, we had more than 300 nominations and this
year we would like to see 500. We are interested in
nurses' achievements in all walks of our profession.
You can access nomination forms in coming print editions
or on our Web site. Please help us recognize California's
best and brightest.
Another important change in NURSEWEEK's 2003 Nursing
Excellence Awards is that soon we will identify a philanthropic
beneficiary of the event-we will contribute our event
proceeds to a worthy organization that is actively working
to benefit nursing within California.
We hope all health systems, health care vendors and
other interested parties will consider being patrons
[sponsors?] of this important event for nursing. However,
the central focus of the Nursing Excellence Awards will
be to honor those nurses among us who have made significant
and lasting contributions to our profession.
I hope you will plan to join us for this celebration
of nursing.
